그래프작업
수치로부터 자유로울 수는 없다.
편의를 위해 만들어진 모든 수치단위는 규격을 만들고 규격은 또 다른 규격을 만든다.
규격화된 인공물에서 생활하며 규격품을 사용하며 살고 있다.
비슷한 프레임의 공산품들....비슷한 높이의, 같은 간격, 면적에 심어진 가로수들.....
똑같이 나열되어있는 건물옆면.. 그 안에 규칙적인 창, 벽돌로 쌓여진 벽면
규격화된 도로, 인도.. 그 위의 차와 사람들의 방향성도 서로 저쪽이 아니면 반대쪽일 뿐이다.
사실 이런 대상은 그다지 유기적으로 형성되어 있지는 않다 다만 각각의 필요성만으로 존재할 뿐이다.
그리고 때로는 하늘과의 경계선을 복잡하게, 물길을 일정하게 만들고 산의 능선을 자른다.
나의 그림은 이런 대상들을 개별적인 수치를 통해 자의적인 관계를 맺는 작업이다.
그래프는 보는 사람들로 하여금 2개 이상의 서로 관계가 있는 수량의 상대값을 쉽게 이해시키는 그림이다.
나는 이런 그래프의 형식을 빌려 내 눈에 보이는 정경과 상황을 조합하여 그릴 뿐이다.
그러나 실재로는 아무런 수치적이나 비율적인 관계가 형성되어 있지는 않다.
다만 나의 시각이 그림을 통해 사람들이 머물고 살고 있는 곳에 대하여 조금의 생각의 전환이 이루어졌으면 하는 바람이다.
Work on Graphs
No one can be free from the numbers.
The numbers for our own convenience have created a standard, and this standard has created another standard.
We live in an artificial world and use standardized goods - Industrial products that have similar frames, trees along the streets that have similar heights, same intervals in between, and occupying the same area….Buildings look the same, built side by side. Their windows are systematic, the roads and sidewalks are also standardized. The cars and people above only have two directions - this way or the other way.
In fact, those objects are not closely connected to one another; they just exist because of their necessity. And, sometimes these objects make skylines more complicated, cut the ridge of mountains, and make the waterways simpler and straighter.
My work is a process of making arbitrary relationships among objects by using individualized numbers.
A graph is an image that makes people understand better about the relationship between two or more objects. I am combining and painting the relations of scenery and circumstance that I see by adopting a form of a graph. However, there is no actual proportional or numeral relationship between the objects. I just hope that my point of view may change the ideas of places where people live through my paintings.
